Target Response Rate

To make the results statistically valid, the questionnaire must be filled out by a certain number of representative employees.

First, determine the number of full-time employees in the participating organization and the response rate required. The smaller the organization, the larger the proportion of employees has to be in the sample. The larger the organization, the smaller the proportion of employees can be and still yield a representative sample.

The response rates guidelines to aim are:

Size of participating organization	Typical response rate required
50 to 199 employees	At least 50% of employees
200 to 500 employees	30% to 40% of employees
501 to 1,000 employees	20% to 30% of employees
More than 1,000 employees	At least 10% of employees
